John Phillip Colletta, Ph.D., FUGA

     

Based in Washington, D.C., Dr. Colletta lectures nationally and teaches occasional courses at local schools. He is a long-time faculty member of the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research at Samford University (Birmingham, AL) and the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. He recently was an instructor for Boston University’s Genealogical Certificate program. He frequently appears on podcasts and local and national radio and television.

Honors include fellowship in the Utah Genealogical Association and distinguished service awards from the Dallas Genealogical Society and the National Society, Daughters of Colonial Founders and Patriots.

A prolific writer, he is the author of They Came in Ships: A Guide to Finding Your Immigrant Ancestor’s Arrival Record, Finding Italian Roots: The Complete Guide for Americans, and Only a Few Bones: A True Account of the Rolling Fork Tragedy and Its Aftermath, as well as numerous articles in genealogy magazines and scholarly journals.
