Thomas MacEntee is a genealogy professional based in the United States specializing in the use of technology and social media to improve genealogy research and as a way to connect with others in the family history community.
Thomas owns his own genealogy-related business called High Definition Genealogy. He also created an online community of over 3,000 family history bloggers known as GeneaBloggers. His most recent endeavor, Hack Genealogy, is an attempt to “re-purpose today’s technology for tomorrow’s genealogy.”

Mind mapping is a process of creating a diagram or flow chart of ideas and concepts. It can help you create an effective research plan and connect data points once the research is completed. 10:45 a.m. Morning Break 11:00 a.m. Wolfram Alpha for Genealogists Wolfram Alpha is a “computational knowledge engine.” Wolfram Alpha provides solutions to questions such as “How am I related to my great-grandmother’s niece?” or “What was the time of the sunrise on April 1, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois?” Learn how this unique site can expand your genealogy and family history research. 12:00 noon Lunch Break 1:00 p.m. Genealogy Education: Getting Your “Free” On In recent years, more and more free learning resources have come online for genealogists and family historians. Starting with a review of different learning platforms, we’ll review various options to help you build a customized genealogy education plan. 2:00 p.m. Afternoon Break 2:15 p.m. U.S. and Canada Newspaper Resources and Strategies Learn how to find the best historic newspaper sites (free & paid) and how to properly capture images and text to improve your genealogical research. 3:15 p.m. Opportunity Drawing / Wrap Up / Turn in Evaluations Overflow ParkingIf you cannot find a space in the Danish Cultural Center parking lot, there is overflow parking available at the St. Jude Medical Center just kitty-corner across the street. Turn in at the Medical center traffic light on Bastanchury Road to park in the St. Jude lot. Then cross at the light.
