Teen Family History Contest Rules
Prizes
Teens will create a family tree, conduct an oral history, or prove or disprove a family story.
First prize is $300 Second prize is $150 Third prize is $50 Winners will also receive a one-year family membership in the Genealogical Society of North Orange County California (GSNOCC). ResearchStudents are expected to conduct their own research. GSNOCC can provide the student with a list of free resources in a 1-hour consultation with an experienced genealogist. The genealogist may direct the student to appropriate databases, books or examples as needed.
ProjectsThe contest is open to all high school students who meet any of the following criteria:
Students will electronically submit a written report of 3-5 pages long plus citations and bibliography. Preferred formats are PDF, Word (doc or docx), or GEDCOM (.ged). Projects must be unpublished, original work and may not have been submitted in any other contest. One entry per person. Projects will not be returned; please keep a copy of your entry. Entries will be judged on spelling, grammar, citations, and accuracy. The judges' decisions are final. All entries must be submitted by midnight Pacific Time, January 31, 2020, on the GSNOCC website. By entering the contest, you grant GSNOCC permission to publish your submission non-commercially. Winners will be announced at the May 20th, 2020 GSNOCC meeting at the Yorba Linda Community Center.
